The Sony Music Entertainment can also be known as Sony Music or by the initials SME.  It is an American run business for music which is operated and managed by Sony Corporation of America.  The enterprise was first founded in 1929 as an American Record Corporation, however in 1938 it was renamed Columbia Recording Corporation.  The company was bought by Sony Corporation of Japan in 1987, where it was later renamed SME in 1991.  It is now the second largest music company in the world, after the Universal Music Group.  Due to Sony Music being the second largest music company, they have a vast number of artists on their records.  Some of the well known music artists who belong to Sony Music are: Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Adele, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Calvin Harris and the legends that are Michael Jackson and Whitney Huston.
