SONG CHOICE DEVELOPMENT
When we first began our research into the type of music genre we should use, we decided that we should choose one of our favourite songs, we believed this would make it easier for us to conclude on a genre, as if we enjoy a chosen song then we are more than likely going to be interested in that genre. Initally, we covered four genres through our choice of songs, these were Pop (Justin Bieber), House/Dance (Phillip George), R&B (Rihanna) and Indie Rock (Arctic Monkeys). After much deliberation on which genre to choose to research into further we decided that we would go with indie rock, this is because we all like that genre of music. As well as this the type of music videos that they produce are more easily reconstructed than an R&B or Dance video from ones that we have previously watched. For example in a lot of Dance music videos they are set in an amazingly large house or on a hot exotic beach which we are uncapable of reinacting and therefore it wont give a real visual representation for that genre. As well as that we liked the idea of having a band rather than a solo performer just for personal preference.
When we researched Arabella by the Arctic Monkeys we noted that the music video was simplistic yet edgy and this is something that attracted us to that band. We liked that video because it conveys a narrative throughout the video through the use of a couple and they also show a band performance. When choosing our genre we did decide that we would like to include a narrative and a band performance and therefore this was a good guideline for us.
We decided to look into 4 music videos, each team member picked a song from our chosen genre.

Our chosen song
"Do I Wanna Know?" by the Arctic Monkeys.
As we all prefer Arctic Monkeys as an artist, we have decided to use one their songs as our inspiration and song choice. We really liked that the original video for our song choice does not have a narrative video to convey the lyrics or even a band performance to express their emotions through their facial expressions, instead it is a video only showing the cartoon soundwaves from the song, which although, it evidently leaves it to the imagination, it is a good song for us to choose as we can express th story through the use of our characters in the video. As well as this, it leaves a lot of scope for us to totally reinvent the song from our perspective and project our meaning of the song through our video. When researching into our genre we really liked that Arctic monkeys had four strong figures and the image that they portrayed as a band and they are the definition of Indie Rock. When looking at the song lyrics we noticed the song was about a couple, this is a theme we want in our music video. Instruments and the beat of the song are very prominant, we liked this as we can show the close ups of the instruments, which we first preffered from watching Arabella. The lyrics to the song have made us able to instantly visualise our ideal music video, which was perfect and with the use of their previous videos we will be able to create a good music video.
