FOCUS PULL

What is a focus pull?

It is a camera technique in which you change focus during a shot. Usually this means adjusting the focus from one subject to another.

It is used to grab the viewers attention by making one subject more important than the other by bluring out th unimportant 'thing' in the scene. You can alternate the focus pool for example to emulate a conversation between 2 people.

Example of focus pull

As you can see the plant is in focus and the girl is blurred, the camera then focusses on the girl and her cat.

How to make a focus pull

To create a focus pull it is all in the use of the camera, no after effects are needed. It is very simple, all we had to do was choose 2 focal points in our scene to focus on and zoomed in to get a clear image. We then just used the focus ring to pull our objects in and out of focus.
