What is masking using a linear wipe?
A linear wipe is when you have 2 videos that show up in one frame. They are meant to fit perfectly together to create the feeling that they are both happening at the same time, this is done in the editing. They are most commonly used when one actor plays 2 parts and they have to be in a scene together. They are created so that you cannot see that it is 2 seperate videos they mould together to create one.

How to make a linear wipe
To make a linear wipe you have to film 2 videos in exactly the same setting one after the other-this is so when we are editing the video in after effects it looks like it is one scene (that has been merged together) rather than 2 seperate videos.
To do this we select the parts of the videos that we want and then we crop them so that both of the videos fit perfectly together in one frame. As well as this you edit the 'feathering' on the video, this is to make it look more real and that the 2 characters are really in a scene together.
